BIO
Timothy Constandinou is Professor of Bioelectronics at Imperial College London, working at the interface of microelectronics, neuroscience and healthcare. He develops next-generation bioelectronic technologies - neural interfaces and contactless sensing systems - built on highly miniaturised, ultra-low-power integrated circuits. He is Director of the Next Generation Neural Interfaces Lab and Head of the Circuits & Systems Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
His research spans implantable microsystems, brain-machine interfaces, bio-inspired circuits and radar-on-chip sensing, with applications in epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, dementia care and other neurological conditions. As a Group Leader at the UK Dementia Research Institute Care Research & Technology Centre, he leads work on bioelectronic technologies for care and intervention in dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions, from unobtrusive in-home monitoring to adaptive neuromodulation platforms.
Alongside his academic role, he is co-founder and CTO of MintNeuro, an Imperial spin-out developing ultra-efficient chipsets for neural implants, where he leads the company's technical strategy.
Professor Constandinou is a Fellow of the IET, a Chartered Engineer and a Senior Member of the IEEE, having held leadership roles in both institutions. He co-chaired the Royal Society's neural interfaces working group, which produced the iHuman report and policy toolkit, influencing national strategy and helping to catalyse the UK's emerging neurotechnology ecosystem. He has also advised government on national semiconductor strategy through the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and currently serves as Associate Dean for REF Impact in Imperial's Faculty of Engineering.
