Yanting joined Imperial College Business School in 2021 as a quantitative marketing PhD candidate in the Department of Analytics, Marketing and Operations, supervised by Stephan Seiler.
Her research focuses on the evolving dynamics of digital platforms and the creator economy. She combines machine learning and causal inference with large-scale data from major user-generated content platforms to uncover patterns in the digital world, with a focus to advance equity and transparency in digital ecosystems and help emerging creators to grow.
Before starting her PhD, Yanting spent three years as a quantitative analyst at JD.com, where she led AI and machine learning projects that used digital footprints to predict purchase intent for targeted advertising. This experience sharpened her data-driven decision-making skills and, more importantly, sparked a deeper curiosity about the “why” behind consumer behavior and firm decisions. Combined with first-hand exposure to real-world digital marketing challenges, it ultimately motivated her to pursue a PhD in marketing.
Yanting joined the School of Management and Economics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen as an Assistant Professor of Marketing in July 2026.

Debashis is from India and has a background in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from B.P.U.T. Odisha (2007-2011) and a Masters in Tribology and Maintenance Engineering from I.I.T. Delhi (2011- 2013). He joined the Tribology group at Imperial College for his PhD level studies under the supervision of Dr. Tom Reddyhoff.
His PhD Thesis titled ''Triboemission-Lubricant Interactions" elucidates various novel methods to observe emission of ions, electrons, photons from contact interface. Extensive studies on charging, material transfer and generation of plasma from various rubbing surfaces were carried out to ascertain the potential role of the triboemission in boundary film formation upon interaction with lubricants. During his PhD, he was awarded two poster awards and two travel grant awards.
His current project is on "Tribology of High-performance polymers". This project is aimed at a fundamental understanding of the formation of transfer films of High-performance polymers at Steel-Polymer interface and their subsequent effect on friction and wear properties in different environment and operating conditions.Debashis is from India and has a background in Mechanical Engineering.
