BIO

Shih-Che Hsu is a Senior Research Fellow in Spatiotemporal Data Science & Climate-Health Co-benefits at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health, Imperial College London, and an associate staff member at The George Institute for Global Health. He also maintains an ongoing academic affiliation with University College London (UCL) as an Affiliate Senior Research Fellow at the UCL Energy Institute.

 

As a multidisciplinary epidemiologist and data scientist, Shih-Che bridges the interface of advanced environmental data science, building physics, and translational public health. He holds a PhD in Energy and Urban Epidemiology from UCL and possesses expert command over high-dimensional spatiotemporal analytics, automated predictive modelling, real-time environmental sensing networks, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). His diverse professional trajectory spans extensive academic epidemiological analysis and industrial experience as an Environment, Safety, and Health (ESH) engineer.  

 

Shih-Che’s core research agenda spearheads the quantification of planetary and human health co-benefits arising from climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies within the built environment. He is a strategic lead for the exposure measurement and spatiotemporal modelling work packages within major international multi-disciplinary projects, including the Horizon Europe-funded ATMOPOLIS (Zero Pollution Cities initiative) and CATALYSE consortia.  He has extensive expertise in manipulating large-scale, high-dimensional longitudinal datasets across health and building stocks, such as the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA) and the National Energy Efficiency Data Framework (NEED).

 

A co-author of the prestigious Lancet Countdown reports, Shih-Che has published widely on simulating indoor air quality (IEQ), thermal comfort, and personal pollutant exposure dynamics across complex residential and non-residential building stocks. Demonstrating strong academic leadership and global vision, he also serves as the Lead for the UCL Global Engagement Funds and actively contributes to higher postgraduate training and curriculum delivery within the School of Public Health.
