RESEARCH

Pedagogy, Training and On-going Work

I recently completed a Master’s in Medical Education. My pedagogical interests centre on how educational institutions shape individual identity, and specifically how representation within these settings influences students’ sense of identity and belonging. More broadly, I am interested in how these experiences affect mental‑health outcomes. The Our Stories project is an example of how we have tried ot foster a sense of belonging through sharing experiences

Previous Work and Qualifications

I hold an Honours degree in Psychology and a PhD in Psychological Medicine, both from the University of Glasgow. From my undergraduate dissertation to the present, my research has focused on sleep and its relationship to the physiological and psychological mechanisms of stress. Most recently, my work has explored the development of educational interventions aimed at improving sleep-related behaviours in young people (e.g., the Teensleep project). Given that sleep is a strong predictor of first-onset depression and anxiety disorders, enhancing sleep health may be an important avenue for reducing the incidence of these conditions.

Recent Work

Work Ive been most recently involved in has highlighted the impact lifestyle medicine teaching has  has on medical students atittudes to sleep, and highlights sleep as a longerterm behaviour change outcome in medical students
