BIO

Professor A. Manikas holds the Chair of Communications & Array Processing in the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London. He is a recognized leader in his field, evidenced by his Fellowships with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), and his recent 2022 IEEE PIMRC Best Paper Award.

 

His research leadership extends to major collaborative projects, including his role as Technical Director of the University Defence Technology Centre in Signal Processing (2008-2013), a consortium of 12 UK universities supported by the MoD and EPSRC. He has also served as a consultant for the EU, industry, and government bodies.

 

Professor Manikas is highly active within the IEEE, having served as a Distinguished Lecturer (2016-2017), Technical Program Committee Chair for the flagship IEEE ICC 2015 in London, and Chair of the Communications Technical Committee on Transmission, Access and Optical Systems (TAOS). He contributes to the scholarly community as a Senior Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems and previously served on the editorial board of IET Signal Processing (2007-2020).

 

As an academic member of staff, he leads a strong research group at Imperial College, having successfully supervised over 50 PhD and 200 Masters students. He is the author of an extensive publication record and the monograph, "Differential Geometry in Array Processing."

 

His expertise is frequently sought by the highest levels of academia and justice, having served as an Expert Witness in the High Courts of the UK and Malaysia, and as a panel member for the Royal Society and the European Research Council (ERC). Professor Manikas is also a Chartered Engineer and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences.
