BIO
Zhengyuan completed a BSc in Animal Science at South China Agricultural University in 2016 before undertaking an MRes in Animal Reproduction at China Agricultural University from 2016 to 2018. During his master's research, he conducted a series of studies on cryopreservation and embryology. During this period, he was awarded the Overseas Study Program of the Guangzhou Elite Project, enabling him to pursue a PhD at Imperial College London under the supervision of Professor Mark Johnson and Dr Natasha Singh. His doctoral research investigated the immunological properties of trophoblasts from a glycobiological perspective.
After completing his PhD in 2023, Zhengyuan briefly worked as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction at Imperial College London, where he developed and performed assays to investigate cellular functions within uterine tissues during pregnancy. He subsequently spent two years as a Research Associate in Professor Mark Johnson's laboratory, continuing his research on trophoblast biology with a particular focus on the role of N-glycosylation in regulating trophoblast immunological properties.
Zhengyuan is currently an Honorary Research Associate in Professor Mark Johnson's laboratory within the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction at Imperial College London. His current research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying preterm birth by investigating how intracellular cAMP regulates the PKA signalling pathway in primary human myometrial cells. His work aims to identify novel therapeutic strategies to delay the onset of labour and reduce the incidence of preterm birth.
