DrWei Hutchinson

Dr Wei Hutchinson is an interdisciplinary educator, researcher and practitioner working across behavioural science, design, innovation and entrepreneurship. She is a 2026 Google Higher Ed Faculty AI Fellow. Her academic background combines a PhD in Marketing, a Master’s in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Global Business and a Master’s in Social Work, supported by earlier professional experience in counselling.

This combination has shaped her interest in people, behaviour and change. Her work examines how individuals make decisions, respond to designed experiences, collaborate in teams and build confidence in uncertain professional settings. At the Dyson School of Design Engineering, she brings this perspective to design engineering education, connecting technical and creative ideas with users, organisations and real-world impact.

Wei’s current educational work focuses on responsible AI use, professional judgement, entrepreneurship education and student–staff partnership. In 2026, she presented work on Developing Enterprise-Ready Judgement: Embedding secondary market evidence in GenAI-enabled STEM innovation projects at Festival of Learning and Teaching. She is also leading a StudentShapers project that brings together student placement experience, industry insight and career development.

Alongside her academic role, Wei works with businesses and start-ups through consultancy, brand positioning, customer insight and commercially grounded decision-making. She is particularly interested in strengthening links between higher education and industry by bringing live business challenges into teaching and helping students develop the judgement, confidence and practical awareness needed for contemporary work.
