BIO

Victoria is a Professor of Medical Statistics and Clinical Trial Methodology, she is Director of the Imperial Clinical Trials Unit (ICTU) and Co-Director of the NIHR Research Support Service Imperial College London and Partners Hub. Victoria undertakes research to evaluate drugs and complex interventions using approaches that promote statistical efficiency through adaptive approaches in both Bayesian and frequentist frameworks. Her statistical research is focused on improving the analysis of adverse events in trials and developing trial design approaches to overcome restricted sample size.

After obtaining a 1st class BSc in Mathematics in 1997 and completing a PhD in Statistics in 2000, Victoria joined the Centre for Statistics in Medicine in Oxford working on cancer studies. In 2005 she moved to the Drug Safety Research Unit working part-time designing and analysing post-marketing surveillance studies to monitor the safety of medicines newly released to market. In 2009 she moved to the NIHR Biomedical Research Unit (BRU) at Southampton University as a senior statistician working on allergy and respiratory translational research projects. In 2011 she established the NIHR Statistics Group with the support of NOCRI which she co-led until 2016 and became Senior Lecturer in Medical Statistics at King’s College London and the Deputy Director for Research Design Service (RDS) London. Victoria joined Imperial College London in 2017 as Deputy Head of Statistics for ICTU. In 2019 she established the Trial Methodology Group which she led until 2022. She became Reader in Medical Statistics in 2019 and Head of Statistics and Trial Methodology in 2020. In 2023 she took up a Chair of Medical Statistics & Trial Methodology, and Director of ICTU.
