RESEARCH

My research can best be described as theoretical and computational modelling to uncover fundamental principles of dynamical biological systems. I use stability analysis and stochastic methods to understand biological systems. I use a multiscale approach as decision making and dynamics on every level are closely intertwined. I have extensive interest in the dynamical systems governing cellular decision-making, the fluid mechanics of organelle dynamics such as ciliary synchronisation, and fluid transport in complex environments such as suspension dynamics and biofilm formation in channel flow. I am interested in both the micro-organism dynamics at a cellular level and biophysical level.

My interests include:

Understanding the bioactive fluid dynamics of swimming and gliding microorganisms both individually and in suspensions
Computational modelling of stochastic biological systems and continuum modelling.
Synchronisation behaviours of dynamical systems
DNA autoregulation and the timing of gene expression dynamics
Developing and analysing the dynamics of minimal gene regulatory networks for synthetic biology
Cell interactions with surfaces and the early stages of biofilm formation (with an interest in antimicrobial resistance)
The dynamics of healthy and dysfunctional ciliary motility
