RESEARCH
My primary research interests focus on multiple aspects of paediatric infectious diseases. I have a previous background in Mathematics, which enables me to work with large datasets to solve some of the major clinical problems in diagnosis and treatment of febrile children. My current work focuses on whole-blood transcriptomic responses to febrile illnesses, and my PhD aims to use transcriptomic profiles and aligned clinical data to develop new classifications of paediatric infectious and inflammatory disorders. This builds on some of my previous work using transcriptomics to develop gene-signatures for diagnosing infectious diseases in both adults and children.
My other major research interest focuses on the use of routinely collected prescribing data to better inform antimicrobial use, both at the level of individual clinicians and the broader healthcare environment. We have shown that this data provides more accurate measurements of antimicrobial use in children, and have long argued that it should be routinely used to monitor antibiotic use in paediatric services.
