A recurring theme in my work is the development of practical tools and frameworks that help researchers, communities and organisations understand systems that are otherwise difficult to observe.

My current research interests centre on how social, civic and digital environments shape participation, connectedness and wellbeing. I am particularly interested in methods that allow complex forms of participation and community activity to be measured responsibly, without relying on intrusive individual-level profiling.

Areas of interest include:

- social measurement and connectedness;

- privacy-preserving analytics and trusted digital infrastructure;

- community participation, local discovery and recurring activity;

- public-benefit data governance;

- responsible platform design and social-impact measurement;

- civic infrastructure, community vitality and policy translation;

- cross-disciplinary methods linking social, technical and health-relevant questions;

I also have long-standing interests in structural biology, crystallography, and protein crystallisation.

This includes:

- crystallisation method development;

- porous nucleating agents and smart materials;

- nanotechnology;

- automation and adaptation to high-throughput;

- rational drug design;

- microgravity crystallisation;
