BIO
In January 2019 I joined the BSc Medical Biosciences team and started teaching full time. I am the Module Lead of the practical module "Lab Pod 1" and Deputy Lead for the "Statistics Module". I am a dedicated teacher that is trained in educational theories and uses active learning methods to deliver our student centred curriculum. I love working with the students in the lab and I am passionate about education.
Medical Biosciences
LAB POD 1
In the Lab Pod 1 module students work on a hypothesis-driven research project in a real biochemical lab. The students form teams of six and develop their own hypothesis and plan and conduct experiments. We as teacher support the students while giving them advice on how to perform the techniques in the lab (Crystal Violet Cell Viability Assay, quantitative PCR and Western Blot) and how to analyse and present data. Those labs create a safe environment where students can learn from their mistakes and start early on to think like scientists.
STATISTICS
In Statistics we teach the basics of Statistics to our BMB students. The students learn the basics about risk and probability, student's t-test, ANOVA, Family wise error rate and how to adjust for those. Then we also cover correlation and linear regression. The students cover the basics at home and can try out different R function using Datacamp. In class they then work in teams of six and analyse data sets and generate reports using RNotebooks.
