BIO
Riccardo Sapienza is Professor of Physics at Imperial College London and Joint Director of the Centre for Metamaterials. He completed his PhD at Laboratories for Nonlinear Spectroscopy (LENS) in Florence and École Normal Supérieure (ENS) in Paris, followed by postdoctoral work at the institute of material science (ICMM) in Madrid and the institute of photonic science (ICFO) in Barcelona. He held an academic position at King's College London before joining Imperial in 2017. His research focuses on optical metamaterials, unconventional lasing systems and neuromorphic computing with light. He has served as Deputy Head of Department (Research) in the Department of Physics, and is founder and CTO of the spin-out RAYD Technologies.
