BIO

Richard is Associate Professor and Director of Academic Development and Research at the University of Law (richard.bale@law.ac.uk).

At Imperial, Richard is Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Higher Education Research and Scholarship (CHERS). Prior to this, he was Senior Teaching Fellow in Educational Development in the Educational Development Unit and was formerly part of the Graduate School, where he designed Imperial's Advance HE-accredited Graduate Teaching Assistant Programme (GTAP).

Before moving into educational development, Richard was Head of Modern Languages and Lecturer in Higher Education at Brunel University London. He has also previously worked as a Lecturer in Applied Linguistics at Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland, and he has taught German, translation and interpreting at the University of Surrey and German Linguistics at the University of Kent.

In 2013, Richard completed a PhD in corpus-based interpreter education and language learning at the University of Surrey. He also holds a Masters (MEd) in University Learning and Teaching, a PGCE in Modern Languages, a BSc (Hons) in Linguistic and International Studies, and he is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
