I am an NIHR Research Professor in Paediatric Critical Care. I am based within the Anaesthesia, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care Division, Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College and within St Mary's Hospital (West London Children's Healthcare) where I am an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care.

• Chair of the UK Paediatric Critical Care Society Study Group (PCCS-SG)
• Lead for the NIHR supported Incubator for paediatric critical care

RESEARCH THEMES:

I lead a diverse and multidisciplinary group working on

• innovative clinical trials (master protocols, adaptive designs, platform and precision medicine trials), especially related to paediatric ventilation;
• population-health approaches focusing on paediatric critical care epidemiology;
• machine learning and artificial intelligence to support clinical decision making in children's ventilation and sepsis; and
• personalised medicine through the identification of blood, breath, ultrasund and vital signs-based biomarkers for risk stratification

RESEARCH CAREER:

I graduated with an MBBS from JIPMER, Pondicherry University, India in 1995 and moved to the UK for postgraduate medical training. Following my MRCP (UK) degree, London in 1997, I completed postgraduate training in the North Thames Deanery from 1998-2005, obtaining a CCST in Paediatrics (Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine). My dual passion for research and information technology led me to take time out from clinical training between 2001 and 2004 to complete an MD(Res) in Medical Informatics Applications (Imperial College, University of London), during which I conducted a series of studies examining the accuracy and clinical utility of a computerised diagnostic decision support system (Isabel).

I continued doing clinical research while in a full-time NHS clinical post at Great Ormond Street Hospital (Children's Acute Transport Service) between 2005 and 2021, and established an internationally recognised track record of funded clinical research in paediatric critical care and emergency transport. I joined Imperial College as a Clinical Reader in October 2021, working within Prof Anthony Gordon's (adult critical care) research group. I was promoted to Professor in 2024 and started my five-year NIHR Research Professorship in Dec 2025.
