TEACHING INTERESTS

Paula supervises research projects for Year 2 students as part of the module Lab Pod 2, a laboratory-based module designed to provide hands-on experience in biomedical research and that includes the use of CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing in the frame of a research topic that changes every year. Through this module, students learn to develop their own hypothesis, experimental planning, and apply biomedical research techniques in a research environment. Paula also teaches the Pharmacology & Toxicology (PHAR) module, where Year 2 students learn the fundamentals of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism and toxicology, and exemplar drugs including psychoactive, hypertension, anticancer and antimicrobials drugs. During this module, students also integrate their knowledge to the process of drug discovery and explore novel therapeutic strategies.
