BIO
Kassem El Cheikh Ali is a PhD candidate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Imperial College London, funded by EPICS UK. His research focuses on developing robust and deterministic protection strategies for power systems with 100% inverter-based resources (IBRs), with a particular emphasis on evaluating and improving the performance of distance protection near IBRs. Kassem holds an MSc with distinction in Control Systems from Imperial College London and a BE in Mechanical Engineering with distinction from the American University of Beirut. He has extensive experience in control systems, power electronics, and software development, having worked with leading organizations such as General Electric Renewable Energy and Red Bull Technology. His academic and professional contributions aim to advance grid stability and resilience in the transition towards a net-zero energy future.
