DrFrancesco Mazzarotto

Francesco Mazzarotto is a Honorary Research Fellow of the National Heart and Lung Institute, member of the Cardiovascular Genomics and Precision Medicine group (cvgenetics.org) led by Prof. James Ware. Currently, he is Assistant Professor in Medical Genetics at the University of Brescia (Italy), where he is based. 

Francesco's background is mixed between biology and bioinformatics. He obtained a BSc in Biology (2010) and a MSc in Bioinformatics (2012) at the University of Bologna, the latter after developing his MSc thesis at the Institute of Biomedical Technology (now part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology) in Tampere (Finland).

Subsequently, Francesco underwent a PhD programme in Clinical Medicine Research at Imperial College London (2012-2016) within a EU-funded Marie Curie training network (CardioNeT), under the supervision of Stuart Cook and Paul Barton. In 2016, he moved to the University of Florence (Italy), where he continued working in cardiomyopathy genetics as a post-doctoral researcher, with Iacopo Olivotto. Simultaneously, he was offered an Honorary Research Associate position at Imperial, which was instrumental in fostering collaboration between the two institutions.

In 2021, he secured his current position at the University of Brescia, where he expanded his research also into psychiatric genetics.
