Eric M. Yeatman FREng, FIEEE has been a member of academic staff in Imperial College London since 1989, and Professor of Micro-Engineering since 2005. He was appointed Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Sept. 2015. He has published more than 250 papers and patents on optical devices and materials, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), and other topics.

He was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering Silver Medal in 2011, and was made a Fellow of the Academy in 2012. He is also holds Fellowships of the IEEE, the IET, IOM3, and the City and Guilds Institute. He co-founded and is Chair of the Executive Board of Imperial-X.

Prof. Yeatman co-founded and was a non-executive director (2001-2021) of Microsaic Systems plc, which listed on the London Stock Exchange in April 2011. Microsaic develops and markets miniature mass spectrometers based on MEMS technology. Its MiD family of instruments were the first, and remain the only, miniature, self-contained mass spectrometers for liquid analysis on the market. Prof. Yeatman was Chairman of Microsaic from 2004-2013, and CEO from Jan-Nov 2012.

He has been principal or co-investigator on more than 30 research projects, with over £25M in research funds raised. He has acted as a design consultant for several international companies, and technical advisory board member to two venture capital funds. His current research interests are in energy sources for wireless devices, sensors and sensor networks, and micro-robotics for medicine.
