BIO
I am an Advanced Research Fellow at Imperial College London with more than 20 years of experience in whole-energy system modelling, optimisation, and the techno-economic analysis of low-carbon and flexibility technologies. My current work focuses on understanding how electricity, hydrogen, gas, and heat systems interact, and on developing advanced optimisation frameworks that support planning, operation, and investment decisions for future net-zero energy systems. Over the course of my career, I have led and contributed to a large number of UK and international projects—spanning hydrogen integration, V2G systems, long duration storage, offshore wind, advanced heat pumps, microgrids, transmission planning, and system resilience—working closely with industry partners, government agencies, TSOs/DNOs, regulators, and research consortia across Europe and beyond.
I have extensive experience designing and applying large-scale optimisation models to quantify system value, assess flexibility needs, evaluate infrastructure requirements, and explore sensitivities around uncertainty in technology costs, operational constraints, and extreme weather conditions. My work has repeatedly provided independent, system-level evidence to support the development of national policies, industry strategies, and regulatory decisions related to decarbonisation, system flexibility, and energy security.
At Imperial, I play an active role in developing research ideas, supervising and mentoring postgraduate students, and contributing to teaching on advanced power system topics. I have also led multiple work packages and research teams, coordinated multi-partner collaborations, and engaged widely with external stakeholders to ensure that analytical outputs translate into usable insights for real-world decision-making. In addition to my research activities, I contribute to the academic community as a reviewer for leading journals and conferences and as a member of editorial boards for IET GTD and Intelligent Industrial Systems.
Throughout my career, I have been driven by a strong motivation to advance whole system thinking in the energy sector. I aim to develop rigorous analytical tools and evidence that help policymakers, system operators, and industry navigate the increasingly complex challenges of achieving net zero while ensuring reliability, affordability, and resilience. My portfolio reflects a sustained commitment to bridging technical modelling, real-world engineering, and strategic policy analysis—supporting a pathway toward a smarter, more flexible, and deeply decarbonised energy future.
