Alex's research and applied interests centre on the gap between innovation and realised value in healthcare: why promising strategies, technologies and improvement initiatives can struggle to translate into sustained changes in practice, and what enables organisations to close that gap.

His work explores the organisational capabilities, behaviours, methods and conditions that enable healthcare organisations to move from strategic ambition to implementation, adoption and measurable value. This includes understanding how human-centred design, organisational learning and capability-building can help teams make sense of complex problems, redesign services and workflows, and embed change in everyday practice.

A growing area of interest is the responsible adoption of AI and emerging technologies in healthcare, particularly the human and organisational factors that sit between technological potential and real-world impact. This includes questions of workflow, adoption, implementation, safety and assurance, workforce capability and the conditions required to realise value responsibly and at scale.

Across these areas, Alex is particularly interested in how repeatable organisational capability can be developed so that successful change depends less on exceptional individuals or isolated initiatives and becomes part of how healthcare organisations routinely understand problems, learn and improve.
