BIO

Yufan Chen is the Public Engagement and Involvement Officer at the Fleming Initiative, a global collaboration led through a partnership between Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, committed to keeping antimicrobials working for the next 100 years. It combines science, policy and public engagement to create sustainable solutions to drug resistance through innovation, education and partnership.

Yufan has worked across science communications and engagement for over 11 years, with a focus on public, patient and community engagement as her specialist expertise. She was previously at Genomics England as the Head of Engagement, where she led co-creation projects with local communities on topics like newborn sequencing and sickle cell, as well as working in close collaboration with the Participant Panel - a critical advisory group made up of research participants who had donated their data or their family's data to the National Genomic Research Library. Prior to this, she was at the Microbiology Society, dissecting complex, deep science to make it accessible to the general public through a variety of channels, including the in-house magazine, Microbiology Today.

Yufan has an MA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Edinburgh.
