DrVesna Manasieva

Dr Vesna Manasieva is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Senior Teaching Fellow in Pharmacology. She currently serves as Module Lead for the Level 5 elective module Pharmacology and Toxicology within the BMB programme, as well as Module Lead for Module 1 on the iBSc Pharmacology pathway within the MBBS programme. In addition, she is an academic tutor for students enrolled in both the BMB and MBBS programmes.

Prior to joining Imperial, Vesna was a Teaching and Research Associate at the University of Hertfordshire, where she led the Drug Development, Discovery, and Pharmacovigilance module on the MSc Pharmacology pathway and the Biology of Disease module on the BSc Bioscience pathway. She was actively involved in curriculum development for the MSc Pharmacology programme and supervised numerous BSc and MSc final-year pharmacology research projects. At Imperial, Vesna contributes to curriculum design for the integrated MSc degree in Science and Innovation.

Vesna’s research expertise is in cardiovascular pharmacology, with a particular focus on the molecular mechanisms underlying the early stages of atherosclerosis. Her doctoral research investigated the roles of the vascular enzymes Semicarbazide-Sensitive Amine Oxidase (SSAO) and Lysyl Oxidase (LoX) as novel contributors to oxidative stress and vascular remodelling in the progression of atherosclerosis.
