I am a field geologist specialized in structural geology, metamorphic petrology and petrochronology. I teach core courses in structural geology, metamorphic petrology and field geology, and supervise student projects. My research is focused on the parameters controlling the rheology of the lithosphere, with a particular interest in subduction zones, treating natural cases in order to consider their natural complexity. Recently, I developed my research portfolio toward pedagogical research, studying the impact of teaching fieldwork virtually instead of outdoor on the student learning experience. I am particularly interested in engaging students as partners in Higher Education and working toward improving Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity in Geosciences.

Together with Dominik Weiss, I am the ESE Undergraduate Senior Tutor. I am also part of the EDIC Committee.

40002 - Stratigraphy and Geomaterials

Aims
This course consists of two streams: stratigraphy and geomaterials.

Stratigraphy provides an introduction to the key principles of stratigraphy and palaeontology, using examples from the geological history of Great Britain.

Geomaterials provides an introduction to the materials that make up planets. During the course, students develop key skills in describing and recognizing the most important and abundant minerals and rocks in hand specimen.

50007 - Igneous and Metamorphic Geology
AIMS
This module allows students to develop knowledge and understanding in igneous and metamorphic petrology, and to develop skills in describing, classifying and interpreting the setting of igneous and metamorphic rocks from hand specimens and thin-section.

60001a - Independent Geology Project


AIMS
The project involves four weeks of independent field mapping in a chosen area. With minimum supervision, students observe, measure, document and interpret the detailed geological history of a specific area, typically of around 20 km2.

AIMS
This module comprises the 2nd year taught fieldtrip component of Geology degrees. It includes two fieldtrips, to the Pyrenees (end of Spring term) and to Scotland (Summer term).
