BIO
Tom is Primary Care Executive Officer in the Undergraduate Primary Care Education Unit.
He is the lead for Inspire GP, an initiative launched in 2023 to shine a light on the positives of choosing General Practice as a career path, working directly with students across all years of the MBBS to examine the hidden curriculum and explore ways of encouraging students to consider GP-related pathways.
Tom leads and teaches "Health Design Thinking" a Student Selected Choice (SSC) course, as part of the Year 3 Medicine in The Community Apprenticeship. Students learn about the importance of inclusive and accessible design choices in healthcare and work together to produce their own design innovations and solutions.
He is lead co-ordinator for the Year 5 Specialty Choice Placements (SCP) in Primary Care, these include Medical Education and Community Outreach, Sustainability, Inclusion Health and Leadership and Management.
Tom also has a role as Lead Sustainability Champion for the School of Public Health, on the Faculty of Medicine Sustainability Advisory Board, sharing knowledge and developing educational tools on sustainability across the whole of SPH to faculty colleagues.
He highly values the key priorities of the department including: sustainability, coaching, patient-centred approaches, social accountability, longitudinal learning and digital innovation. Tom has a specific interest in the use of creative approaches to learning and to student and patient experiences through the arts, humanities and graphic medicine.
