RESEARCH

I study light-matter interactions in nanophotonic landscapes with theory and simulations. I develop theoretical models to explain and provide insights about nanophotonic phenomena, and numerical methods to simulate general nanophotonic systems.

 

Topics of interest

  • Space-time metamaterials: How can we structure media in space and time to create new functionalities that are not accessible to natural materials?
  • Machine learning for and using physical systems: Instead of treating modern machine learning as a black box to design physical systems, can we turn it into a tool that helps us understand the deep and hidden physics? And how about using complex, nonlinear physical systems as faster and more efficient computers?
  • Nanophotonic enhancement of light-matter interactions: As tiny as light is - a thousand times smaller than small everyday objects - atoms that form matter are another thousand times smaller, making it difficult to control them with light. How can we create small nanostructures that strengthen their interactions and create new avenues of control?
  • Dynamics of lasers and complex systems:Dynamics of two is hard, and any more is utter chaos. What can we salvage, and how can we use it to our advantage?
