BIO

My research broadly focuses on anthropogenic impacts to coastal groundwater systems. I combine groundwater tracers such as radon (222Rn) and radium (224Ra, 223Ra, 228Ra, 226Ra) with other geochemical markers (e.g., stable isotopes, emerging contaminants) to better understand:

  • water and pollutant transport pathways via submarine groundwater discharge
  • biogeochemical cycling within the coastal aquifer
  • influence of environmental drivers (e.g., meteorological, oceanic, extreme events) on the above

In addition to field and lab-based research, I also combine field-based geochemical techniques and machine learning and statistical approaches to study human impact on aquatic environments.

I also strongly believe in the power of multidisplinary collaboration. I am particularly interested in intersections between aquatic systems and public health, social science, and/or policy (e.g., impact of climatic hazards on human health - Mora et al., 2022).

Enquiries regarding PhD projects or collaboration are welcome.
