MrThomas Barbera

I joined Imperial College in 2017 as a Research Technician in the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction. I assisted in the running of a wide portfolio of clinical trials which focused on various aspects of liver disease. I also helped run the department's Biobank program, attending various clinics around the hospital and recruiting patients.

In 2019, I started a part-time MRes in Clinical Research with a focus on Translational Medicine, which I completed in 2021 earning a distinction.

After finishing my Master's, I began working as a Clinical Trial and Data Administrator within the Department of Surgery and Cancer, Cancer Clinical Trials Section. In this new role, I helped facilitate the setup of a portfolio of Phase II, cancer based, clinical studies alongside the teams various Study Coordinators. Alongside this, I assisted in the database management, data entry and close-out of several trials.

I then started work as a Clinical Trial Monitor within Imperial College's Sponsors Office in 2022. In this role, I provided oversight to a wide number of Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs) acting as the Sponsor representative for these trials. I also completed monitoring of trials, ensuring sites were compliant with the protocol, current legisaltion and the principles of GCP - particularly those which focussed on patient safety & data integrity.

In 2025, I changed roles within the Sponsor's Office to RGIT Research Project Facilitator where I will be primarily responsible for ensuring our Sponsor procedures are in line with current legislation and resolution of any corrective and preventative actions identified during the latest MHRA Inspection.
