BIO
Steven read Electrical & Computer Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, specialising in Telecommunications, and graduated with First Class Honours in 2019. Upon completing his military service as a Research and Informatics private with the C Army Corps of the Hellenic Army, he was awarded the Arnaoutis Foundation Scholarship to pursue an MSc in Optics & Photonics at Imperial College London, which he completed with Distinction in 2021.
He subsequently joined Prof. McCall’s research group at Imperial as a doctoral candidate in theoretical optics, funded by the Bodossaki Foundation. In addition to his research, he served extensively as a graduate teaching assistant, and also co-supervised dissertations undertaken by MSc students. He successfully defended his thesis, 'On the Identification of Novel Bragg Phenomena in Static and Dynamic Media', in March 2025.
Thereafter, he was appointed Research Assistant and, following the conferral of his doctorate, promoted to Research Associate, working on a kick-starter project examining the modulation of light by gravitational waves. Spanning telecommunication engineering, meta-materials, all-optical analogue computing, and light propagation in non-trivial topologies, Steven has found himself engaged with nearly every facet of electromagnetism. Indeed, in November 2025 he joined Dr David Ayuso’s group in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial, wherein he is engineering light in (3+1)-dimensions so as to enhance the enantiosensitive detection of chiral molecules.
Steven’s research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous international conferences, including through invited talks. He has also contributed a book chapter, serves as a regular reviewer for several academic journals, and is a member of the Institute of Physics.
