BIO

Stefano Sandrone is an Italian neuroscientist and an international leader in neuroscience and medical education.

He has won many of the most important awards globally, including:
-the Science Educator Award presented by the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) in 2019;
-the A. B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award (twice) from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) in 2020 and 2024;
-the Miriam Friedman Ben-David Award from the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE) in 2024;
-the Distinguished Neurology Teacher Award (youngest winner and the first European to win this award) from the American Neurological Academy (ANA) in 2024.

Moreover, he has/had leadership roles in major national and international committees, including at:
-the Italian Ministry of Health.
-The European Health Parliament, a Brussels-based initiative founded by Google, EU40, POLITICO, College of Europe, Johnson & Johnson and European Patients' Forum.
-The Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME), which was established in 1957 ‘to conduct, promote and disseminate medical education research and scholarship’.
-The Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), a worldwide organisation with members in over 90 countries across five continents.
-The American Academy of Neurology (AAN), which represents more than 40,000 neuroscientists and neurologists worldwide, where he was the youngest vice Chair and Chair ever.
-The American Neurological Association (ANA), the ‘premier professional society of academic neurologists and neuroscientists since 1875’.
-The International Behaviour Neuroscience Society (IBNS), with members from 34 countries.
-The International Behavioural and Neural Genetics Society (IBANGS), a global society established in 1996 to promote and facilitate the growth of research and education in neural behavioural genetics.

At Imperial College London, he is the co-director of the MRes Experimental Neuroscience and the MSc Translational Neuroscience. He is also a Senior Tutor and Welfare Tutor and has teaching responsibilities and leadership roles at Departmental, Faculty and College levels.
