BIO

Sofia is a Paediatric Intensive Care Consultant and an MD(Res) student at Imperial College London.

Clinically, she obtained her medical degree at Bristol University and a Business Management BSc at Imperial College, London. Following this, she pursued post-graduate training in Paediatrics and Paediatric Intensive Care across London and Bristol with two years in South Africa in Paediatrics, anaesthetics, ICU and trauma. After obtaining a dual CCT in Paediatrics and Paediatric Intensive Care in 2024, Sofia returned to Imperial College to pursue her academic interests in Paediatric Intensive Care.

Academically, she is a research fellow at Imperial College, London, working on a number of projects:

  • Artificial Intelligence modelling for invasive mechanical ventilation and Sepsis for children in PICU.
  • Undertaking an MD(Res) in developing a definition for Children with Complex Critical Illness in Paediatric Critical Care
  • Co-leading PANDA-PIC: a prospective multi-centre, observational study of non-elective advanced airway management events (AAME) across UK and Irish paediatric critical care units and retrieval services.

 

Academic roles: 

  • Co-lead for the NIHR incubator in Paediatric Critical Care.
  • Editor for the Paediatric Critical Care section of Don't Forget the Bubbles.
  • Chair of the Paediatric Critical Care Society Special Interest Group for Children with Complex Critical Illness.

    Her current research interest as part of her MD is developing a modified Delphi consensus definition and criteria for children with complex critical illness within PICU, and she won a Paediatric Critical Care Society Grant for this work in 2024.

 

Her supervisors are Professor Padmanabhan Ramnarayan at Imperial, and Professor Natalie Pattison at the University of Hertfordshire and East & North Herts NHS Trust and Researcher in Residence (ICU) Imperial College London.
