ProfessorSudhin Thayyil

Sudhin Thayyil is a Professor of Perinatal Neuroscience and Director of the Centre for Perinatal Neuroscience at Imperial College London. He completed his paediatric and neonatal training in Leicester, Newcastle, and the Cambridge-London rotation, and obtained his PhD from University College London (UCL) in 2010.

He was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Neonatologist at UCL in 2011, joined Imperial College in 2014 as a Reader, and became a Professor in 2020. He received an NIHR Clinician Scientist Fellowship in 2011 and an Advanced Fellowship in 2018.
His research focuses on hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, including prevention, stratification, and neuroprotection, with an emphasis on both high- and low-income settings. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and secured more than £20 million in research funding.

Professor Thayyil is passionate about mentoring early-career researchers, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, with several team members having obtained prestigious fellowships under his guidance.
