BIO

Simon Padley is Professor of Practice in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute.

Clinical practice.

Dr Padley provides cardiothoracic imaging and intervention at the Royal Brompton Hospital and general, thoracic and interventional radiology at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

He has previously been director of department at both CWH and RBH and HH.

Non-Clinical activities.

He was an executive committee member of the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging and developed the current accreditation process. He has served as a panel member for NICE Cardiac CT guidance, MRHA, HTA interventional devices group and NHS London commissioning group for interventional radiology.

He has undertaken wide ranging editorial duties and has maintained an academic output since 1987, supplemented by numerous book chapters in standard radiological and medical teaching texts. His publications are mainly in cardio-thoracic radiology and cross sectional imaging with more than 160 peer reviewed papers.

He teaches and speak at national and international meetings including invitations from the Royal College of Radiologists, British Institute of Radiology, British Thoracic Society, European Congress of Radiology, European Respiratory Society, Hong Kong College of Radiology, American Thoracic Soc, Royal College of Physicians, Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of Anaesthetists, College of Emergency Medicine, The Intensive Care Society, European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons etc

Amongst other teaching duties he supervises ICSM BSc students who undertake department based elective projects, is a regular panel member on the ICSM medical student interview boards, and has undergone equal opportunities and interview skills training and assessment and appraisal training.

Percutaneous ablation of lung tumours.
Dose optimisation in CT.
Novel imaging techniques in peadiatric lung disease.
MRI of the large and small airways.
