BIO
Since 2006 I have been working on a project to develop transgenic mosquitoes for malaria control in Africa (now called Target Malaria, PI Professor Austin Burt). I came to the project after doing my PhD on the genetics of populations of Anopheles mosquitoes in Southeast Asia. My role in the project has evolved over the years from purely scientific - studying the genetics of wild mosquito populations - to an advisory and outreach position. I am glad to be using my knowledge of the biology and genetics of mosquitoes, vector control, gene drive technology, biodiversity and biosafety to offer guidance within the project and for interactions with global stakeholders.
