DrSukhjinder Nijjer, BSc MBChB FRCP PhD

Dr Sukhjinder Nijjer is a Consultant Cardiologist and a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer with a specialist interest in Coronary Intervention and the treatment of coronary artery disease. He works at both Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He has clinical research interests in coronary physiology and the treatment of acute coronary syndromes.

He studied Medicine at the University of Bristol, graduating with Honours in 2004, gaining 15 distinctions, two undergraduate scholarships and many prizes including the Romeo Vecht Prize for Cardiology, Edward Fawcett Prize in Anatomy, the Robert Wofinden award for Ethics, the Dr Alfred Edward Aust Lawrence Prize in Gynaecology, the THESIS Dermatology Prize and the national Arthritis Research Campaign prize.

He completed an intercalated BSc in Pharmacology, supported by the prestigious Wolfson Award from the Royal College of Physicians. He achieved 1st class Honours together with the Hans Heller Memorial Prize for the highest performance in the final examinations. He was also awarded the Pharmacology Research Prize for the best laboratory based thesis which was presented at the British Pharmacological Society (2001).

He completed his postgraduate medical training at the Hammersmith Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital. He achieved MRCP at the earliest opportunity before completing specialist Cardiology training in North West Thames. He trainined in coronary intervention at the Hammersmith Hospital and this included training in structural heart disease. Dr Nijjer gained complementary training in cardiac MRI and completed an advanced training in Cardiac CT at Guys' Hospital.

Dr Nijjer was awarded a PhD in coronary physiology by Imperial College London after completing internationally recognised research under the supervision of Dr Justin Davies and Professors Francis, Mayet and Hughes. Dr Nijjer was pivotal in the validation of iFR, a novel index to assess coronary stenoses and lead the development of iFR-Pullback, a technique to map the haemodynamic impact of stenoses in a coronary vessel.

Dr Nijjer is an expert in coronary physiology and is a member of faculty at both the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and Transcatheter Therapeutics (TCT) conferences. He frequently lectures on coronary physiology as well as the treatment of acute coronary syndromes.

Dr Nijjer is a practising Consultant Cardiologist and can be seen under the NHS or privately.
