BIO
Sofia Miron Barroso is a PhD Student working on developing novel delivery systems for delivery of RNA therapeutics for pancreatic cancer therapy. She is funded by a Doctoral Training Programme (DTP) MRC iCASE Studentship and is part of the Centre for Advanced Therapeutics.
During her PhD she undertook a placement at Stanford University where she worked on developing and translating genomic technologies for detecting, monitoring, and studying breast cancer funded by the MRC Supplement Scheme, the Dean's Internship Award and the Polaris Fellowship by Entrepreneur First.
She also co-led the organisation of the Excellerator 2023, a global event at Cambridge University that brought together the leaders in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry with 100 carefully selected participants.
She graduated with a Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Barcelona (Spain). She spent the last year of her degree at Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and did a summer internship at Cambridge University (UK) funded by Erasmus Scholarships.
She is a former student and scholarship holder of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degree (MSc) in Nanomedicine for Drug Delivery. This program is taught by four European universities: Université Paris Cité (France), University of Angers (France), Univeristy of Patras (Greece) and University of Pavia (Italy).
She is enthusiastic about cancer research, nanomedicine, advanced therapeutics, health-care innovation, personalised medicine and biotech entrepeneuriship.
