My research focuses on malaria in pregnancy. Currently, my work involves using mathematical models to estimate the impact of malaria during pregnancy on maternal anemia. For my doctoral dissertation, I determined predictors and associations with maternal and birth outcomes of Plasmodium falciparum infection in the first trimester among nulliparous women from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, and Zambia.

I previously have studied other infectious diseases including tuberculosis, influenza, and HIV. While living in Bangladesh, I studied the co-morbidity of diabetes and tuberculosis. For my master’s thesis, I used a national surveillance dataset of influenza test results to track and predict influenza in real-time. During my PhD, I lived in China and worked on developing questionnaires in Chinese and English for the largest real-world study of pre-exposure prophylaxis on HIV transmission among Chinese men who have sex with men.
