DrSamuel Humphry-Baker

Dr Sam Humphry-Baker is an Associate Professor in Ceramics in the Department of Materials at Imperial College London. He received his MEng from the University of Oxford and completed his PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied the processing and thermal stability of nanocrystalline thermoelectric materials. Following his doctorate, he joined Imperial as a postdoctoral researcher, working with Tokamak Energy to develop advanced radiation-shielding materials. In 2017 he was awarded an Imperial College Research Fellowship and subsequently an EPSRC Open Fellowship. His research focuses on the processing, microstructural design, and performance of ceramic materials for extreme thermal and irradiation environments. His work has led to two patents and close collaborations with industrial partners including UKAEA, Petronas, and Tokamak Energy. He currently serves as Undergraduate Laboratory Coordinator within the Department of Materials.
