BIO

My research group develops advanced materials for next-generation nuclear fusion reactors. This includes high performance radiation shielding materials, plasma facing components, and high temperature structural materials.

The group aims to improve our understanding of the degradation of such materials in extreme fusion reactor environments including thermal-mechanical stresses, corrosion, and irradiation damage. We use this understanding to optimise their processing and microstructure for enhanced performance. Our research spans refractory metals, structural ceramics, and their associated composites.

The team comprises 2 PDRAs, 4 PhD students and 3 Masters students. We have active collaborations with industrial partners in nuclear energy and manufacturing including the UKAEA, Tokamak Energy, and H. C. Starck Tungsten.
