BIO

At Imperial, I head up a team of Business Analysts and User Experience Analysts within Strategic Programmes & Change. Our team supports strategic change programmes at Imperial and our primary goal is to ensure that our future services, processes and supporting IT solutions are designed with the needs of end users at their heart.

The day-to-day work of a business analyst varies throughout the lifecycle of a change programme. Towards the start of a project, we usually focus on strategic goals and requirement analysis, engaging with a wide range of people at Imperial to understand their needs, goals and priorities. We analyse the pain points that people are experiencing and identify improvement opportunities that may help to solve these. Later in the cycle we engage in the design and testing of improved future business processes and the solutions and operating models that support these.

Alongside that, business analysts will typically ‘muck in’ and do whatever is needed to help a change programme succeed. This can be anything from running workshops, deep-diving problems, writing options papers, supporting the testing process, cleansing data or configuring an IT system. It's a great role for people who enjoy variety.

Career Background
It’s not by accident that I’ve chosen to spend most of my career in higher education. I've worked in HE ever since the late '90s, when I took a role at the University of York. I love being surrounded by our brilliant people and I enjoy our challenging culture, even when it drives me mad. Fundamentally, I'm proud to work for an organisation whose primary purpose is to create knowledge and to change the world for the better.

Over the years I’ve held a variety of analysis and management roles in which I've been able to develop different specialisms, including process architecture, change delivery, project & programme management, systems & data analysis and business intelligence. A common thread throughout has been a focus on understanding the needs of the end user and the strategic goals of the organisation, both of which lie at the heart of business analysis.

Goals
Currently, I’m supporting the Great Service programme, which aims to simplify and improve Imperial's services and processes across Finance, HR and research administration as well as replacing the IT systems that underpin these. I really enjoy working with this diverse and positive team which includes people from many different areas of Imperial. If I could choose just one goal for our ambitious programme, it is to ease the burden of slow, heavy admin processes so that our people can focus on what they’re brilliant at.

Other interests
When I'm not at work I am usually immersed in the arts. I love painting, books, theatre, food and wine. In recent years I've begun to exhibit my artwork and this takes up a lot of my free time, alongside parenting my children. My favourite country to visit is Italy.
