BIO
Simon is a Walter Benjamin Postdoctoral Fellow working on the design of next generation lithium-ion batteries using generative AI as well as continuum modelling and simulation techniques. He is passionate about the complex multi-physics of energy materials and their modelling across different time and length scales. With a background in mechanical engineering, he specialised in computational materials science during his PhD at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on the simulation of novel sodium-ion cathode materials. His studies were accompanied by an exchange semester at the KTH in Stockholm and a research stay at the MIT in Boston, Massachusetts.
His vision is to develop fast, intelligent microstructure design for batteries validated on lithium-ion cells, with methods that generalize to next-generation systems such as sodium-ion, solid-state, and layered or graded electrodes.
