BIO

I work on conformal field theory (CFT) with applications to quantum gravity and condensed matter physics. The connection to quantum gravity is via the holographic principle, which equates theories of quantum gravity like string theory to CFT in one less dimension. The connection to condensed matter physics is via continuous phase transitions, which are described by CFTs. For a pedagogical discussion see:

My work has been awarded by two major grants: the University Research Fellowship from the Royal Society, and the ERC Starting Grant.

I have employed 4 postdocs and one PhD student so far, one of them (Deliang Zhong) will be joining the faculty at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, in Beijing.
