BIO
I coordinate the intercalating BSc in Global Health (iBSc GH) course for medical students at Imperial College London. Within the course, I lead the Science in Context module, which is mainly the Community Group Placements at the local community-based organisations for self-directed experiential learning of global health issues faced by communities within London. My research interests include health literacy, health promotion, and health care access among minority populations, including Gurkha veterans in Nepal and UK.
I received an MBBS from Tianjin Medical University, China and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Community Medicine & Tropical Diseases from Nepal. I have a Master of Public Health from the Royal Tropical Institute, Netherlands, where I researched the motivations of medical students to work in rural areas after graduation.
Before joining Imperial, I worked in academic roles (Associate/Assistant Professor) at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal, teaching medical, dental, nursing and public health students at undergraduate/postgraduate levels, including Master of Public Health courses between 2012 and 2019. I have experience leading teaching/research for medical students in community settings such as family health exercises and community diagnosis programs. I was instrumental in starting and coordinating the Global Medicine Short Course for medical and nursing students of Uppsala University, Sweden at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepal.
As a clinician, I have experience working as a Primary care doctor for Bhutanese Refugees in Nepal and as a community physician in rural areas of eastern Nepal. I have research experiences in different areas of public health mostly focusing on low- and middle-income countries. I contributed as a consultant in Nepal to evaluate the Tobacco Control policies and MPOWER package of WHO in the Southeast Asia region in 2017. I also have experience as a guest lecturer in Indonesia, facilitator in a WHO workshop for health literacy in the SDG era for the Southeast Asia region of WHO and speaker in public health seminars/workshops for different organisations. I have also successfully co-led the local production and promotion of the reusable sanitary napkins initiative for women and girls affected by the massive earthquake of 2015 in Nepal.
I serve on the Editorial Board of the Public Health Challenges (Wiley) Journal.
