BIO

Sonja holds a Master's in Microbiology/Biochemistry from the University of Tübingen, Germany, and a PhD in Bioengineering from ETH Zürich, Switzerland. After postdoctoral work in yeast Synthetic Biology at Columbia University in New York City, USA, Sonja joined the University of Groningen in the Netherlands as Assistant Professor in 2019. There, she was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2024. Sonja joined the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London as a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in January 2025.
