DrSamantha Alvarez Madrazo

Samantha Alvarez Madrazo is a Senior Teaching Fellow. Since 2021 she is also Statistical Teaching Coordinator in two postgraduate taught masters' programmes: on-campus Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Public Health Online (MPHO). In the MPHO, she is co-module lead on the Statistics for Public Health module. She also teaches in another elective module in the MPHO as well as two other modules in the MPH. 

Additionally, she leads and provide guidance to any specific technology being implemented in the quantitative modules; and when required, support or triage quantitative support for postgraduate taught or research students in the School of Public Health. 

Since 2025 she is member of the Latin American in Health and Social Care UK Network and since 2026 a member of the SPH's People and Culture Committee.

She studied Pharmacy, Biochemistry and Pharmacology in Mexico and pursuing an interest in personalised medicine was awarded an MSc in Clinical Pharmacology and a PhD at the University of Glasgow. During her PhD and post-doctoral research, she explored translational links between genetic variations in human genes producing key hormones and the development of high blood pressure in case-control studies from different European countries. She also has experience in pharmacoepidemiology research using electronic health records.

With a deep commitment to education, she has designed and delivered postgraduate courses in both face-to-face and online formats. She recently completed a Master's in Education (MEd) at Imperial. Her Master's thesis was entitled "Postgraduate teachers' experiences and assessment literacy on summative assessment reduction". She is also Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK.
