BIO

I lead a research team developing next-generation mid-infrared light sources for applications ranging from biomedicine to security. My work sits at the intersection of optics, photonics, and analytical chemistry.

Current projects include the development of novel mid-infrared sources for precision ablation and subsequent analysis via mass spectrometry. We are interested in advancing methods to increase the resolution and speed of mass spectrometry-based tissue imaging. These new methods are enabling sub-cellular metabolic mapping, high-throughput sample analysis, and precision tumour resection guidance. We are also working on new laser architectures in the first atmospheric transmission window to tackle emerging challenges in security.
