Ruiqiang joined the Mechanics of Materials (MOM) division in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London (UK) in 2017 as a PhD student. After completing his PhD in 2021, he was employed as a PDRA at Imperial College to continue his research in metallic materials science and engineering.
Ruiqiang's research focuses on the experimental mechanics and modelling of metallic materials and products (e.g., aluminium alloys, boron steel, titanium alloys), investigating their properties and performance under real-world conditions, particularly at high temperatures (up to 1000 °C). His research activities include: uniaxial tensile/compression tests, multi-axial stress tensile testing, DIC strain measurements, EBSD microstructure characterisation, in-situ SEM/EBSD tests, and oxidation layer characterisation.
He has secured the following research grants as an independent researcher:
1. Revolutionising Hot Stamping: A High-accuracy Digital Method for the Automotive Industry, Value: £40K, Funder: UKRI Impact Acceleration Account (Role: Co-I)
