RESEARCH
Tropical Cyclones
Tropical cyclones cause the world's most damaging natural disasters. We study these fascinating storms from many angles. Our aim is improve the understanding of the physical processes that drive the genesis, intensification , size, and track of tropical cyclones. We analyze the climatology and remote and in-situ observations. To understand risk we build physically informed statistical catastrophe models. We use atmospheric-ocean physics numerical models to understand physical process by modeling historic and idealised cases. Through international partnerships we are studying tropical cyclones globally. We are the largest tropical cyclone research group in Europe.
