BIO

Rıza Alp Güler is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London, working on computer vision with a focus on geometric perception and generation of humans. He received his PhD in applied mathematics and informatics from INRIA and École Centrale Paris in 2019. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Imperial College London and co-founded Ariel AI, a startup bringing real-time 3D human understanding to mobile devices, which was acquired by Snap in 2020. At Snap, he managed computer vision teams working on human understanding and generation, most recently leading the Human3D team in Snap’s GenAI organisation, with models deployed to hundreds of millions of users.

His current research aims at a new level of interactivity between people and machines: perception systems detailed and fast enough to capture the full expressivity of the human body as it moves, so that interaction no longer has to pass through screens, controllers or keyboards. He serves as an Area Chair for CVPR.
