BIO

In the UK COSMOS study, Dr Rie Goto leads the development and coordination of the second follow-up survey. She oversees questionnaire design and refinement, ethical approval, coordinates with stakeholders, and manages data analysis to support high-quality longitudinal research on health outcomes.

 

She has extensive experience in designing, implementing, and analysing large-scale population studies in both high- and low-income settings. Her previous roles include work at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, where she analysed nutritional epidemiology, dietary assessment, and public health modelling to assess the impact of a large-scale food fortification programme in Tanzania. She also held research and teaching positions at the University of Cambridge, during which she evaluated the impact of a UK government–funded asset transfer programme on health and nutrition in Bangladesh.

 

Dr Goto is an experienced researcher specialising in epidemiology, public health, and survey research. She holds a PhD in Biological Anthropology from the University of Cambridge and an MPhil in Anthropology from Durham University, following initial training in Health Sciences and Nursing at the University of Tokyo.
