Ryan Barnett is an Associate Professor in Condensed Matter Theory in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London. Before moving across the pond, Ryan received his PhD from Harvard Physics followed by postdoctoral positions at Caltech and the Joint Quantum Institute (University of Maryland/NIST). He has also held leadership roles at Imperial including Director of the Applied Mathematics MSc (2014-2019) and Director of Postgraduate Studies (mathematics) (2019-2024).

Ryan regularly teaches modules in the mathematics department which often have a physics / applied maths theme. He is currently teaching Quantum Mechanics 2. He has enjoyed supervising numerous undergradute and MSc project students.

Ryan has carried out impactful research on a range of topics in quantum physics. His current interests focus primarily on dynamics of ultracold atomic gases and topological condensed matter systems.
